Salvation Farms attended the School Nutrition Association of Vermont’s (SNA-VT) Food Show at Sugarbush Resort in August. The SNA-VT is an organization led by child nutrition professionals and its mission is education and advocacy for healthy school meals. Behind the scenes during setup, the vendor area was a hive of action with businesses arranging their displays and making introductions. National and local businesses shared their offerings, from wholegrain breakfast waffles to meatless deli slices, cafeteria-friendly food was displayed from wall-to-wall.
As the conference sessions broke for the afternoon food show, the stream of people wound their way through the expo. There were about 150 school nutrition workers present! Salvation Farms staff had a chance to meet and greet folks from districts around the state. We described our processing program goals and offered samples of blanched sweet corn on the cob, coined carrots and diced potatoes. The enthusiasm for local produce was unanimously stated! Kudos to this group for their passion and dedication to serving healthy, scratch cooking in schools.
Salvation Farms was pleased to share a table with our friends from Food Connects, a food hub based in Brattleboro. Our neighbors at the event, Andrew Wild and Jennifer Cornelius from Mighty Mudita Deli Slices know us well, as we are both clients at the Vermont Food Venture Center in Hardwick. The connections made and strengthened at this event are great, we are grateful to Karyl Kent and Doug Davis for the invitation. And, a huge thank you to the School Nutrition Association of Vermont for their excellent effort in organizing the food show!
